Commonly missed sunscreen spots by men
Just a short post today but nonetheless, an important one…
The horrific thing about skin cancer is that it can strike anywhere and anytime. Even in the winter time. This is one of the main reasons I’m such an advocate for making sure the skin is protected all year round.
On the plus side, skin cancer is more ‘controllable’ than other cancers. There are things you can do to prevent it, like wearing clothing, staying in the shade and applying sunscreen properly. This is the point I want to dwell on because I’m assuming you know how to put clothes on.
Now, I recognise it’s virtually impossible to cover every square inch of exposed skin, for every second of the day. That’s why clothing is such a good choice.
However, clothing isn’t always an option men want to take.
With that in mind, there are a few commonly missed sunscreen spots that you would do well to think about.
If I showed you an image of your face under a UV camera, after applying any kind of sunscreen to your face, you’d see exactly where you missed spots. Typically, we all miss bits the same areas reasonably consistently, no matter who you are. And not just when applying to the face.
So, here are the most commonly missed spots, listed from head to toe, in case that helps you remember :
- Scalp and top of head (particularly if you have very short or thinning hair)
- Ears (front and back)
- Lips and upper lip
- Back of the neck
- Top of shoulders
- Top of your feet
Covering these areas will help reduce your risk of skin damage, skin cancer and premature skin ageing.
If the first two don’t motivate you, think about your good looks. It will make such a difference in years to come. I’m sure you’ll thank me.
That’s all for now. Thanks so much for reading.
